Behind the Season Soccer Video

This video was the biggest project I have ever worked on. It took a little over a month to complete, while working on it everyday. In my class I worked with Katie and Emily. We went to a lot of the games and practices and filming all aspects of the game. We had many interviews and tried our best to incorporate all of the teams throughout the film.
Editing the film started out very tricky because finding a story was the most difficult part of the film. We had so many different stories and themes and we had to combine them all into one. We finally decided to go from team to team and make each team their own story to make it personal.

Short Film from 2014-2015

When we started making a short film for our sophomore year we had little to no clue what we were up against. We started out with an idea and it eventually flowed into our production of a short film. In order to make a well put together film you need a crew that knows what they are doing. Along with the crew you need editors.

Editors are people that have been thrown into the background and do not get a lot of credit when they really should be getting a big part of it. The flow of the shots and the way the movie is put together is all from the editors and anyone that has made a short film or movie before really knows what this is like.

Short Film made by an Apple IPhone 6s

The Quality of the camera over the years has changed drastically and so has the way we make movies. There has been a series of tests done over the quality of the new iPhone 6s including Macro shots, backlight, daylight, portrait and sunsets. As you can see in the picture to the left there is a significant difference in the quality of images coming from the iPhone 6s

This shot was taken from the iPhone 6s. These shots could even be mistaken for an actual high quality video camera. They made this short film over a painter in Jalouzi and through this shot you can see how magnificent the shots are and the how great the phone can capture color.

Using your car for a dolly

Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on Dolly's you can use your car as an alternate way to film unique shots for your film.

When you use your car to film shots it makes the scene more real and looks as though you are walking or running with that person in the shot. You can also create out of body shots along with out of body shots you can create more depth by standing on top of the car to create a birds eye view.

Some issues you may be having when working with your car is the shakiness. To offset that you can use a sweatshirt or bag of rice to stabilize your shot. It is an easy fix but very helpful in the long run.
You may also have problems with your audio because of the running engine but an easy fix is to put your car into neutral and push it along yourself.

Using your car can be very beneficial to compose a movie with unique shots that capture the audiences attention.

Who's Who on a Movie Crew

There is many things that is put into a movie which contributes to the overall production. The key players are the Director, Assistant Director and Executive producer. Many other people are key in the production of the movie but is too many to name. The challenge of this article is how to explain each key role in a movie crew. The amount of people that are needed to make a great movie can vary from a couple people to hundreds depending on the movie being made.
This blog was really beneficial and contributed to my learning in the areas of what it really takes to put on a movie. The thing that was tricky to understand was why so many assistants and  "co" people are needed.
Overall the blog was very beneficial because it had a video and follow up thoughts about the video to make me understand better. It was thorough about all the jobs and what they did to contribute to the making of the movie.

Final Project Animation

The Scope of this project was to create a scene using a green screen, special effects, and a 3D object. You had to combine them all into one to make a movie. You worked in teams to create the movie which was very helpful when coming up with the ideas. The scene we chose was a New York Scene. And we chose to have a spaceship come into the city and blow up another spaceship which was the 3D aspect. With the green screen we incorporated Carter and him pointing at the spaceships to signify woah what is that.

Before anything we had to make a story board. They are not the most fun thing in the world but they help when you are troubleshooting what scene needs to go next. Geoff made the whole scene of when the spaceship comes in and blows up the other one that it is chasing after.
The first thing we did was find the scene of the New York that we liked. After we located the scene we picked out the best area to cut a smaller scene in order to make the movie 20 seconds.

After we found the scene we shot a green screen video. Carter had to look like he saw something in the sky which would later be the spaceship. He had to point at it and follow it without knowing how fast it rally went.

The last thing that we did was put all the pieces together. We had to combine all the clips and put it into a movie. We had to put carter into the scene and make him look like he was actually there. When that was down we had to put the spaceships in and make a laser and an explosion so you could see what was happening and make it look real. After we put everything together we rendered it out.

Something i learned technically is that technology can be rough. When you want something to go one way it will go the complete opposite. We over came the problems though and it turned out good in the end. Something i learned from a professional standpoint is that working in groups is so much easier than working by yourself in big projects. When you have multiple minds to bounce ideas off of then it makes the whole process easier.

On the other hand something i would do differently is looking at the details. If you miss the little things then your movie seems to become off and it makes it very difficult to find the problem. Also i think we could have created a more unique video but we just didn't really want to think so if we thought of something more original i think it would have came out much better.

Something i would do the same for this project is work with the same people because they are fun to work with and easy to get along with.  The idea wasn't a horrible idea but it could have been improved on overall i think it was a good animation.

This experience has made me realize how different and cool you can make things with others ideas. I can enhance my next project by looking more at the details and on a more enhanced idea.

Overall this project was one of my personal favorites and i enjoyed working with my team. Although i think we could have came up with a better idea we still did a good job with putting it all together.

Semester 2 Video Final

Overview

The scope of this object was to create a short film for our final project in sophomore video class. We had to create a short film that had to be 3-5 mins long. We had to come up with our own script and make it into a short film. We found actors to play the roles and had to make time on a separate day to film the whole movie. We had some troubleshooting we had to get around but in the end it turned into an amazing short film.

Process

The process of making this film was very tedious. the first thing we had to do was make a story board and script. We had problems along the way when people weren't here or forgot something at home but we later got the script put together and then the the story board soon after. After the story board and script was done we had to make it come alive. Trey was one of our actors but we also got one from outside of class. I thought they both did very well and worked hard to make this short film possible. On a Sunday we took 4 hours to film at Ernie Miller Nature Park. We ran into troubles but overcame them. We went deep into the woods to find good places to film and good areas for them to have room in order to act. After we got done with the filming we took all of our films back into the class and started editing. The editing process took a week or more. The long process was caused by the fact that we have 200 some odd clips. We had to go through every clip and decide wether or not the clip would fit.

Learning experience

Something that i learned early on in this project is to be prepared. If you are not prepared then you will run into a lot of troubles down the rode. So be prepared and be ready to be thrown into situations you were not prepared for.

Technically

We had a couple problems with our technology. The first problem we had was the first day of filming our SD card became full. We had to run home and get a computer to get rid of the unneeded clips. When we were filming the Scientist scene we forgot about audio and so we had no audio which then we had to re film.

Professionally

Something i learned about professionally is that you need to have a group of people that you enjoy talking to. If you don't get along and don't see eye to eye then you will have conflicts with your film that could make it go down hill. Luckily I had a good team that I liked talking to and enjoyed their company.

Something Different

Something i would do different is to be prepared. I wish we would have brought a couple more SD cards so we knew that we wouldn't have to go get another one. Something else that i wish we would have done different is talking about the editing portion. If we knew more about the main concept and what we were trying to get a crossed i think i could have had a better edited film.

Something The Same

I like how many shots we got. The variety of shots made it easier to edit the film and to have a lot of cool angles which was needed in this film. We also did good with communicating when filming. We told each other we the shot needed to be more focused or when we needed to change the angle.

Drawing something from the experience

Something i drew from this experience was having a good group to work with and good actors. Our actors made the film worth watching. I think they did better than i excepted and made the film make sense. The Director Trey did a good job with voice overs which made the film flow so much better.

Conclusions

Overall i loved making this film. It was fun working with the people i got to work with and i enjoyed filming. My role in this short film was to film and tell the actors how to look. I really enjoyed how well we all got a long and the way it turned out. To be honest at the beginning i really had no idea what the film was about and how we were going to even produce the film. Once we got through the script writing i got the idea and really enjoyed the story line. I can't wait to make another film next year and hope those are able to add up to this film.

Redo-Expolsion

The process of special effects can be very tedious. We worked with After Effects to create and explosion. You have to pull all of your videos into After Effects. After they are all pull din you make a new composition in order to layer you objects on one another. Making an mask is a very important step when dealing with special effects. When making explosions you can block out certain parts you do not want the fire to hit to make it look more realistic. After you add the main explosion you add things like falling dust and exploding debris to add a more realistic effect to the scene. After you are all finished with the process of layering the videos you then put in the sound which makes the scene come to life. After the sound is put in you render it out into the final result.

Maya Tools

ICE CREAM
In this project i used bump mapping to make the texture of the ice cream to make it look a little more melted rather than crisp and clean. I also used it to make the texture of the waffle cone. After i made all the graphics and the scenes i made every keyframe to make an animation and put it into Adobe After Affects which then made it into movie file. I had troubles with rending out my ice cream because the texture would move at a different pace then everything else which i got semi resolved. This project was one of my favorites because it turned out looking really cool and looking like actual ice cream.

BOUNCING SPHERES
In this project i created balls bouncing which before we did anything we had to film the actual balls bouncing on a floor. I had to make the balls and then put every key frame in and then like the ice cream put it into Adobe After Affects which then i rendered it out and made it into a movie. On this animation everything turned out correct and made me very pleased. It looks like real balls bouncing on the floor but the tricky part was getting them to bounce at the same blade on the ground.

CUPS
In this project i learned something new called NURBS which makes and outline of the object and then you hit the revolve tool and it made the object from that outline. I made an outline of each cup and it made it into a cup. I then put curves and textures on the cups and then render the picture out. In the end the cups turned put to look really cool and the textures made them look a lot better than the regular lambert gray.

SALT SHAKER
The Salt Shaker was the most recent thing i have done i used the curve tool and made it curve it which is much like the NURB tool. The main tool i used was the lofting took which made it into the shape of what you see there. I had to use other tools that i used in the past to make the top of the Salt Shaker like mesh, boolean, difference. I liked this project because it is something i made and something that could actually be used in the real world.
